Total Dismay

Economics 101 for Oceans 13

Just to avoid confusion, I’ll mention that this is only the third film in this series. The first in the series was itself a remake of of the 1960 movie starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.

Both of the modern movies featured an ensemble cast of huge stars, several of whom are close personal friends.

I went to the numbers to help me decide how far Clooney et al. were planning to take this.

My graph shows that the movies should actually stop costing money to make before Oceans 15 is due out, but that the advertising costs will have risen above the worldwide gross.  The graph clearly shows that Oceans 14 is as far as this thing should go, unless they stop advertising.  Actually, if you take the advertising budget out of the equation, Clooney and Pitt could take the money that comes in during production and pay people to go see Oceans 17.
