The Paris Hilton DUI incident is being treated so much more casually than the vehicular mistakes of Mel Gibson and Britney Spears even though all three stories have a few things in common. 

• Nobody was hurt
• They all broke the law
• They are all celebrities
• Their vehicles are large and impractical
• They are white

I’m not trying to make a point with all of those, just putting them out there.  Britney was highly criticized because the potential victim of her stupid mistake was her own baby.  How many of the cars that Mel and Paris shared the road with had a baby on board?  We will never know.  MADD seems to be the only people expressing outrage at Paris Hilton’s drunk driving.  For the record, I vented about her drinking and driving before she got caught.

Oh, and Paris has been rumored to be racist, but she is always sweet to police officers.  If Mel Gibson had a vagina, he might have been a little sweeter too. 

The thing that really bothers me about the rich and famous drinking and driving is that they can easily afford to have someone drive them.  Paris has her publicist carry her bag from the bar to her car and then drives away herself after presumably having had a few drinks.

And another thing, if you were operating a bar and serving the lady who thought it was a hoot to make on camera disparaging remarks about the quality of a nightclub would you measure the shots or just give her lots?
