The Dixie Chicks Documentary
The United States is a polarized nation. This means that anyone who wants to be a player in the popular culture of one of the World’s biggest consumer markets has to sit on a fence hoping to sell themselves to both sides. Some artists know the prevalent view of their key demographic and pander to those views. The Dixie Chicks were in an unfortunate situation. Their core fan base had views in direct opposition to their own. Maybe it wasn’t so much their real fans as it was right wings groups aggressively influencing the industry by which they market to their fans, but the effect is the same.
I want to pose this question: Where the twelve words a miscalculation that caused a need for the band to reinvent themselves or were they a considered decision? I have one Chicks song on my MP3 player, they sound good when they sing. I have no problem with hearing what they have to say either.
