People like me who string a bunch of words together and publish them on the Internet have have a few ways of knowing how much attention our creation is getting.

Hits are just that, a single web browser somewhere on the planet loads your page and the hit number is increased by one. This occurrence is a source of validation for many bloggers, but when you think about it, it doesn’t really mean much. It doesn’t even mean that a human being has read your words.

Comments, those are great. I have v1agraw salesman offering words of encouragement and a screen full of links on an hourly basis. I would approve a few so you folks could see them, but I think that cheapens the special bond that they and I have formed. I like relevant comments, I really wish I had more of them.

Incoming links are where it is really at. That means that somebody else has looked at your website long enough to decide that they want to put code on their page that points web browsers to your page. SEO partly involves carefully increasing the number of incoming links that a given page has. The inspiration for this post is actually so I can take the opportunity to provide a link to an SEO related Webmasters blog. I checked out the blog that the preceeding link points to and it is indeed a blog with good quality content related to SEO. I am curious about a recent post about a deep links only directory. My understanding of SEO is rudimentary at best and I am interested in learning more.
