Shocking Product Logo of the Week

Posted in Cool Stuff by totaldis on the June 28th, 2007

croc.JPGI was researching the razor blades that I bought. This is the most interesting thing that I found.

Gillette Co., which already controls 60% of the European razor-blade market and which last week also took over the big West German appliance firm of Braun, is now moving in on Africa with its Nacet blades. Gillette offers shaves to Africans who have previously trimmed their whiskers with knives, in its advertisements plays up to crocodile-conscious natives its Nacet trademark—a blade slicing through a crocodile.

Time, 1967

I am surprised that this logo hasn’t been made more cute and less violent by now. I guess it may only be in the Western World that controversies arise over logos.

The iPhone has a Better Camera Than I Do

I take some pretty good pictures with my 5 year old digital camera. It is easy to use and nobody ever tries to call me one it when I am taking a picture of something.

The camera that is one of many features on the soon to be here iPhone has more mega pixels than my camera. I still like my camera.

Welcome to The Police State

Please click on this to go and view an awesome banner where you can watch The Police’s videos, listen to tracks from The Police’s new 2 cd hits collection, enter to win a trip to NYC to see The Police in concert and even view details about their current world tour.

You can also send this info via email to a Friend. There are even ringtones. I would be apprehensive answering my phone to the strains of “Sending out an S.O.S….”

This dynamic trio released a 2 disc compilation CD on June 5th, and they are touring like crazy. The album has absolutely every important song ever put out by The Police.

My memories of being a kid who was just starting to get interested in music center around the hay days of this band. Hey, they were my hay days too, except I was actually in the fields making hay. The cute girl at the hamburger van that was parked at the county fair was playing the Synchronicity album every day all day.

King of Pain was seared on my brain that summer. Oh, and hearing the line “Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes” was an unusual accompanyment to loading cattle into trucks at the end of the fair.

I will once again admit that I practiced slow dancing with a pillow to the tune of “Every Breath You Take.” This makes it hard for me to keep a straight face when I am dancing with a real live woman to this song. Luckily, we generally aren’t looking at each other when we slow dance.

The new compilation Police Cd comes with a vintage concert poster. The fact that it is advertised as such makes me feel old.

Canada Day is Coming

Posted in Everything Else by totaldis on the June 27th, 2007

flag.JPGWhen it comes to celebrating our North American countries, Canada is the FIRST! dude. The USA has their big day three days later and Mexican Independence Day isn’t until September 16th.

I am going to a big celebration. I have agreed to be the designated driver for so many people that I will have to make two trips. I celebrated at the same party last year and it was quite surreal to have the Canada Day celebrations in an establishment that had the World Cup on the big screen. If you are Canadian, you know that the Canadians are NEVER in the World Cup.

Teen Sports Burnout Treatment

Posted in Everything Else by totaldis on the June 27th, 2007

I have avoided one all too common failing of parents. You have probably seen the parents who stress there kids out about sports. I don’t do that. The thing is , even the kids who don’t have stress piled on by the expectations of parents have loads of other stressors, both external and internal. Kick Out Stress is a teen sports burnout treatment program that helps teens learn how to cope with anxiety and avoid being burned out. I remember a guy that I went through highschool with who walked away from a high pressure situation where he was a nationally ranked athlete. I was among the people who were perplexed when he just quit one day. I was probably the decision that made the most sense to him if he was burned out. Who knows what might have happened if he had been given coping strategies that could help him enjoy the sport again.

Dr. Philip Morse is the man behind Kick Out Stress. The coping strategies he teaches are not solely for athletes.

One Small Step For Man

I decided to stop using plastic disposable razors in an effort to reduce my personal use of plastic.

I bought an old fashioned safety razor and the razor blades that emo kids use for their avatars.

They do the job and the razor blades come with very little packaging. I need to find out the recommended number of uses for these things.

Smartwater

Posted in Everything Else by totaldis on the June 27th, 2007

So I saw the words ‘GE Smartwater replacement filter‘ and I was intrigued. I am thinking about water a lot because I am suffering through a heat wave right now.

It turns out that SmartWater is the trade name of the water filtration system that is built in on some GE refrigerators. ABT Electronics carries the filters, which should be replaced at least once every six months. ABT is one of those businesses that starts and ends with great customer service. If I had to describe their niche I would say that they carry a variety of electronics and other goods that require good customer service. In a sense, customer service is their business and they have been building it since 1936. They sell everything from Blackberries to Barbeque Mitts. They also have two seperate Live Chats. One is Sales and the other is Customer Service.

My ‘Conspiracy Theory’ Theory

I have this theory that the evil people who secretly run everything have been encouraging and funding all kinds of wacky conspiracy theories. This was a long term plan. It had some risks as, every now and then, one theory would veer off course towards a chilling truth.

Eventually though, the goal was achieved and a critical mass of people across all social and political spectra became completely tired of and fed up with conspiracy theories. I have unwittingly been one of these mullified sheep.

Paris Hilton Released From Jail

Posted in Paris Hilton by totaldis on the June 26th, 2007

Just to use this as an example of how little I really care about celebrity news…

I had forgotten that this was the release date for Paris Hilton. She wasn’t in jail very long, but it was still long enough for me to lose interest in the fact that she was there.

I read all about the behind the scenes drama about who would get an exclusive interview. I have a theory that a few of the players didn’t really want to talk to her, they just wanted the publicity of being in talks with her.

Before and After Labia Surgery

Posted in Everything Else by totaldis on the June 26th, 2007

The Website www.lvratlanta.com has lots of information and also graphic before and after pictures of elective surgery that has been performed on female genitals.

There is some heated debate as to how beneficial vaginal cosmetic surgery is for women. I do not have a female body of my own, so I am not one to make a quick judgment. I saw before and after pictures of a guy who had liposuction to remove his love handles recently. I have those. The thought of instantly getting rid of a portion of my body that I don’t feel good about intrigued me.

I did a bit of research on Dr. Miklos and his colleagues in Atlanta, and they have some pretty impressive qualifications and recommendations. They are not nose job guys, their education, training and experience is all related to the area of the female anatomy that is the focus of their practice. They also perform a number of medically necessary procedures.
