This is the window of a decorative art shop that is in JFK Square. I prefer to enjoy exquisite decor vicariously. I was shopping for a coat rack this week because we don’t have one. I found some very nice ones that cost more than I was expecting to pay. My leather coat got a touch of mildew this summer and I want to be able to hang it somewhere with dry air.

Worst Christmas Gift Ideas Part III: Ambiguous Political Paraphenalia

thongI know this is a very bad Christmas gift idea. This thong is part of a whole range of items available from a website that is supporting Dick Cheney’s undeclared bid for the Presidency. You might consider getting them as a joke gift for your least favorite Neocon supporter.

Dick Cheney is the Vice President of the United States of America. He has said several times that he will retire next year. He is a man who has been known to change his mind on occasion.

The light was very good for photography today. I am not a talented photographer. I have learned to recognize good light.

There is no baby in the buggy. It’s not only grandmothers who use these old carriages as a means of transporting bulky items. Grandfathers use them for bringing in potatoes and for taking heaps of fodder to their animals.

Worst Christmas Gift Ideas Part II: Cat Milk

catmilk.JPGI had to buy this cat milk so I could bring it to show all the guys at work. When I did some research I found out that dairy cats endure a lot of indignity and discomfort. I think we should all boycott the cat milk industry. If you want to join the boycott, be sure to check the ingredients on your cheese, butter and ice cream to be sure that it is not made with cat milk.

This might be one of the most important and also easily sustained boycotts that you could ever join.

Worst Christmas Gift Ideas Part I: Mr. Hanky

Don’t buy a Mr. Hanky toy. Any child or middle-aged Floridian bald guy could make his or her own from Sculpey in about 30 seconds. In addition, the voice of Mr. Hanky is just about the easiest TV voice to impersonate. Here is a transcript of the South Park episode that introduced this adorable turd to the world. Fill your boots.

Self Portrait Sunday: Stripes and Plaid

guitarme.JPGAnother black and white. Well, mostly black. We have put low wattage bulbs everywhere and it is too gray outside. My shirt and this chair were clashing very badly.

I apologize for missing Self Portrait Sunday last week.

A Very Nice Instrument

I was getting an early start on compiling a list of Christmas tunes to play during office hours next month. I got sidetracked when I saw a Greensleeves interpretation from the guitarist featured in this video. I’m choosing to embed the story of the instrument to save you some time, because you would be curious if you just saw him playing. He collaborates with another great player on some very pleasant music such as the Greensleeves suite. They call themselves Bardou. You can also find them on iTunes.

Further Review of the Homoerotic ManHunt2

Some of the major improvements that have been made in the second installment of Manhunt have to do with interior decorating and fashion. Check out this old screenshot:

Now look at how the great guys at Rockstar took the look from Drabulous to Fabulous.

I think parents should ignore the R rating that the prudes in the industry gave to this game. It’s important that your kids develop a sense of style early. I was a kid when knitted ties came into style. We don’t want that to happen again. The Manscaping Crew at Rockstar really out did themselves with this game.

It’s Safe to Dance

Posted in Fashion, YouTube, Dance by totaldis on the November 15th, 2007

Have you noticed that the Evolution of Dance is coming dangerously close to losing its place as the MOST VIEWED YOUTUBE VIDEO OF ALL TIME? Oh well, at least he got to go on Oprah. If you are one of the over 60,000,000 viewers, you may remember that he was wearing an orange tee shirt and bluejeans. This is not the first choice in dancewear for most professionals. I think they might be stretch jeans. I might have to go back and review. I really don’t want Avril Lavigne to have the most viewed video.

JustForKix.com is a supplier of dance wear, shoes and costumes. I looked and they do not have jeans. They have some awesome camouflage pants that look like street clothes, but are constructed with dance in mind. They also have some serious hip hop footwear. You need the right combination of grip AND slide for that style of dance.

Goose Eggs

Posted in Personal by totaldis on the November 15th, 2007

I used to be a bit of a backyard hobby farmer. I kept domestic geese for two years. Goose eggs are too big and too rich to make for a good breakfast staple. They are great for baking, as long as you are making a big batch of whatever you are baking.

The first year that I had geese, we ordered a dozen ‘day old’ chicks from the Co-op. They were in the house with a heat lamp for the first few weeks. After that, I built a round movable enclosure that went out on the lawn. Geese are great for backyard farms because they are grazers. Some people don’t like them because they are poopers.

Keeping two or three geese through the Canadian winter was a pain. They are covered in goose down, so they weren’t in great danger of freezing. The difficulty was keeping a steady supply of unfrozen water in their pen. In the spring, I let the last remaining female hatch out some eggs.
