Total Dismay

An Inexcusable Truth?

Posted in Politics, People by totaldis on the March 8th, 2008

A member of Team Obama resigned shortly after she was quoted in the press as having called Hillary Clinton a Monster.

Samantha Power is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and she was a volunteer adviser. She called her words inexcusable at a press conference.

This thing reminds me of something that happened in Canada. In 2002, the Director of Communications for Prime Minister Jean Chrétien was overheard calling George W. Bush a moron. Françoise Ducros resigned after her words made it into print as well. Her job was not volunteer work, but rather quite a high paying and prestigious position. The incident was a setback and I think her words were very poorly chosen, but it doesn’t actually look that bad on her resume in 2008. She is presently a director of CIDA.

Samantha Power is still a Pulitzer Prize-winning author.

  1. Problem, I think, with Obama’s advisors is that they’re very green, as far as politics is concerned. If you take the Power thing with the NAFTA flap regarding his economic advisor Austan Goolsbee’s discussion with the Canadian government, it shows that they’re quite good at what they do, but not at politics…Best thing Obama can do at this stage is to keep his advisors on a tight leash and stop them from speaking to the media, or anyone else.

  2. I find it sad when things like this happen. I realize that name calling isn’t the best approach, but then I also realize that you cannot please everyone and that people will not think the same of other people. I have an opinion of Hillary and I let people know what it is. I do not think that she should have resigned, or even felt like she needed to. People need to stand up for what they think and say, instead of letting the world tell them what to think and do.

    Cheers.
