My Contest Gets some Buzz

Posted in A Contest, Blogging by totaldis on the September 10th, 2007

I got some buzz for my odd blog contest today.

The dude who runs ContestBlogger.com had an awesome idea and he is totally pulling it off. I reviewed him in another blog and I got a comment thanking me for pointing him out. I have entered a couple of the contests that he has featured on his blog. I don’t know if Contest Blogger is in the running for any awards for niche blogging, but if it is it should be a shoe in.

Clarification About My Contest

Posted in A Contest, Blogging by totaldis on the September 7th, 2007

The contest that announced earlier is real. I was inspired by the fact that an awful lot of contests in the blogosphere are essentially the same.

The last time I gave away an mystery object of undisclosed value, it was actually pretty nice. My winner was in rural Texas and it took a long time for the snail mail to arrive.

Creative Writing Contest

Posted in Art, Personal, A Contest, Blogging by totaldis on the September 5th, 2007

A simple contest for bloggers and non-bloggers alike:

Find a drawing related to a patent application and use it in anyway you choose as the basis for a short work of fiction. You can either write 150 words or more in a comment or just leave a link to a blog post.
To quote Wikipedia:

“In most countries, the text and illustrations of patents are excused for copyright and can be considered to be in the public domain.”

The contest is open until October 1st. I will choose the best entry and award them $6 or an undisclosed object to be delivered by mail , whichever the winner would prefer. All contests must have rules. Here is a rule…

The following people are excluded from my contest:

  1. Ted Nugent

Good luck to any and all entrants.

Do You Like Stamps?

Posted in Art, A Contest by totaldis on the August 28th, 2007

I recently bought some special edition stamps. They depict some of the masterpieces of bad-ass painter dude Caravaggio. Here is one of his works.

I was going to toss them in with some Christmas presents this year, but I think I might use one of them as postage for mailing the prize for my upcoming contest. Here are the actual stamps.

400 years ago, painters were the Rock Stars.

Hoping for Second Prize…

I am entering a contest that Colleen (yes, the woman with the sweet ass) has going on over at Geeky Speaky. The contest is a random drawing for a sleek little Western Digital 80GB Portable Hard Drive. This is a very good prize, but I would be quite happy to get the booby prize, a DVD of The Wedding Singer.

I occasionally like to sing I Wanna Grow Old With You to my sweety. I don’t have a copy of the movie, it used to dependably air on television about as often as we would want to watch it. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment Colleen’s Blog Post. You will see when you get there that there are ways to get extra entries, thereby improving your odds.

Contest Winner

Jayme wins $10.

Total Dismay expresses it’s need for a hug, or my need for a hug or both for the rest of the year.

It’s a win/win situation.

Choose My Tagline!!!

Posted in A Contest by totaldis on the August 1st, 2007

My contest is now closed. It’s time to vote for a winner.

I decided to semi-randomly choose one entry from the comments that included multiple entries.

The choices are linked to the people who submitted them. Vote for your favorite entry, or the entry of your favorite person. The winner gets ten bucks. I use the winning entry as my tagline for at least six months.

Whatever happened to ‘Dibs’?

Posted in Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, Music, A Contest by totaldis on the July 31st, 2007

Hilary Duff has a new album, it is called Dignity. I am not going to tell you what I think of the music, I haven’t heard a note of it.

The reason I am blogging about it is because she had no right to use that word as an album title. Britney Spears had that word on her list of potential album titles. That is essentially the same as calling dibs isn’t it?
Here is the list that Britney compiled. At this point, I am not 100% sure she was being serious about the whole fan voting thing…

1. Omg is Like Lindsay Lohan Like Okay Like
2. What if the Joke is on You
3. Down boy
4. Integrity
5. Dignity

I can see a two potential problems with the first choice. First off, it is a question that lacks a question mark. This punctuation is required even if a question is rhetorical. The second problem is that the question has been definitively answered at this point.

The second choice has the same grammatical error and it makes Britney seem crazy.

The other three choices are reasonable titles for pop albums.

I am going to let my readers decide on a tagline for my blog. Today is the last day to offer a suggestion and possibly win ten bucks.

A Dangerous Contest

Posted in A Contest by totaldis on the July 13th, 2007

I have been reading some tips about how to effectively hold a contest on your blog. They are very good tips and I have decided to completely disregard them.

I am tired of the tagline that I have on this blog. I want somebody else to choose a new tagline.

Anyone can enter my tagline contest by leaving their suggested tagline as a comment on this post. I will create a poll on August 1st that will run for one week.

The tagline with the most votes will become my tagline for no less than six months. The winner will also be eligible for a prize of $10 through PayPal. If you do not have PayPal, you can still enter, you just can’t have $10.

Subversive entries are welcome, but please keep societal norms in mind. Originality is also a requirement.

I reserve the right to choose finalists from the entries if the total number of entries exceeds the limit set by whatever free poll widget I decide to use.

In the likely event that I have lured you here and you are unfamiliar with my blog, let me point you to a category page that is condensed oddities directly from my brain.

Once when I was a kid, I jokingly offered a suggestion for the name of our newly formed 4-H club. 4-H clubs are run democratically for the most part and I was shocked and dismayed when my joke captured the imagination of the younger members. At the end of the day, I was the President of The Hillbillies.
