Total Dismay

Worst Youtube Video Ever of the Day

Posted in Music, Avril Lavigne, YouTube by totaldis on the August 5th, 2008

She was a girl, he was a boy, could not make it anymore obvious…

The Evolution of Dance guy deserves to have the most viewed YouTube video of all time. As of recently, he doesn’t. An Avril Lavigne fanclub colluded to use auto-refresh to get her lame video to the top. The Avril Lavigne fan club sucks and their dads should demand to have their ties back after this travesty.

Finding Free Sounds

Posted in Music, Avril Lavigne, Art, YouTube, Conspiracy, Dance by totaldis on the November 13th, 2007

This video is kinda stupid. I made it. I was at a different computer when I threw it together and I didn’t have any access to any of my own music. I am a member of The Free Sound Project, so I grabbed something appropriate from there to use as an audio track for this relatively pointless YouTube video. I just tried a few ominous search terms until I saw a synth track that was the right length and had the right tone. I think I will spend some of my free time reading up on creative commons licensing. I have to confess that I do not fully understand how to properly make use of material that has such a license.

Unite Against AIDS

First off, I need to back up on some of my criticism of Avril Lavigne. I think she has a good work ethic and a lot of character. She has always been willing to step up for charity and I think that it says something in her case, because I think most of her fans would not really notice if she didn’t work for charities.

I think battling AIDS is one of the best battles to choose when you have a voice that people are listening to around the World. This is a disease that can be fought with education and outreach. those who are already victim to it can be helped a great deal, but drugs are expensive and the disease is at its most rampant in some of the poorest places on Earth.

IndieMV.com has a contest associated with the upcoming “Unite Against AIDS” benefit concert on November 28, 2007. Here is a press release with more details. If you like making videos, you need to check this out…

I Don’t Like Avril Lavigne

Posted in Music, Avril Lavigne, YouTube by totaldis on the September 13th, 2007

I had my first introduction to the music on Avril Lavigne’s current album earlier this year over the sound system at a pizza restaurant. I found it to be very annoying and intrusive.

When I saw that the video for her single is one of the most watched of all time on YouTube I had to ask ‘why?’

I must have been asking out loud, because my wife suggested that the multi-lingual aspect might have played a role in its popularity.

  • Ich mag nicht Avril Lavigne
  • Eu não gosto de Avril Lavigne
  • Je n’aime pas Avril Lavigne
  • Non gradisco Avril Lavigne

Ok, that’s enough, I am bored. Why did I have to make things so complicated?

Avril Lavigne is Lame

Posted in Music, Avril Lavigne by totaldis on the July 26th, 2007

I am continuing in my efforts to steal readers from Perez Hilton. I actually have no problem with Avril Lavigne. There is apparently no love lost between Avril and Perez.

I was forced to listen to some of her latest music while eating in pizza joints and cafes in recent months. Perez likes to go on about Europe having more sophisticated taste than America, I’m in Europe and I am not sure if he knows what he is talking about.

Anyway, it struck me that Avril or one of her cowriters has realized that her fan base is completely oblivious to the bad sappy rock ballads of the mid 80’s, thus giving her free reign to practically carbon copy it. I don’t enjoy her music. I don’t think she cares.

Perez Hilton Gets Hits: Why?

I have been having some moderate success with another blog of mine and now I am depressed about the pitiful amount of readers that I entertain with this blog. If you are reading this right now, I love you. I really do. But I can’t stand those fickle people who make a decision each and every day NOT to visit TotalDismay.com.

I think that a lot of the people who don’t visit my site tend to check out PerezHilton.com. Those are the people that I should be targeting. At least I would know that the time they spend reading my blog wasn’t eroding the GDP or contributing to child neglect.

So, my plan is to steal readers from Perez Hilton. I am going to do this in a scientific way. I will try adopting one key aspect of Perez Hilton’s blog and measuring it’s effect on traffic. Today I am going to adopt the MS Paint method of making a regular photograph into a substantively changed commentary.

Avril Lavigne Is Sucky

Posted in Music, Avril Lavigne by totaldis on the May 16th, 2007

I did not listen to Avril Lavigne on purpose. I did not intend to do a critique of her music. I know that I am not her target audience. Her new single was blaring full blast at the place where I like to get my sandwich made to order. The sandwich was great. Tuna, black olives, a bit of lettuce. It was very fresh and tasty. Avril seemed to be performing a parody of her teen aged angst of four years ago with the novel addition of a great deal of unnecessary noise.

If you want to prove to everybody that you have balls, Avril, try appearing in public without eye shadow.

California Real Estate Insanity

Posted in Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Brad Pitt, Michael Jackson, Avril Lavigne by totaldis on the April 10th, 2007

I don’t follow the real estate values in California very closely. The climate is very nice there. They call it a Mediterranean climate. Since I am not a celebrity, when I decided to leave Canada for a warmer place I went to the Mediterranean. Houses are very expensive to purchase here, but they are surprisingly cheap to rent.

I find out about house prices in California when celebrities get married and when they get divorced. Avril Lavigne and her new husband are shelling out about $10 million. Jessica Simpson and Nick Lache sold their Newlyweds home to a d-list actor for something over $3 million. Tom Green has irrevocably altered his nice 7 figure bungalow by retrofitting it into a broadcast studio for his web channel. And Steve O peed on his chairs.

I can understand why busy actors and actresses might need to have a house in Southern California, it’s the singers that I don’t get. Britney Spears claims to hate the spotlight, but she continues to live in the midst of it. She owns several homes including one in Southern California. If you are a smart celebrity homes can be a great investment. Brad Pitt has a house fetish. He likes houses that can be used as projects. He has had generous block parties to appease his neighbors and make up for all the construction. He is also too busy to actually spend much time living in the houses that he acquires and works on.

ValuesInfo.com can be used to get an idea of what your own home is worth, or you can use it to get an idea what homes in other neighborhoods are worth. I actually used it last year by plugging in celebrity addresses. It was fun.
