Is Pointless Drivel DONE?

Brad Finn was a popular blogger. Today, his popular blog seems to be gone. It could just be some technical difficulty. Standing by might be a more appropriate use of my time than eulogizing his Sculpy and penis (and sculpy penis) filled blog. But I am bored.

It’s seems like more than a coincidence that his blog disappeared shortly after he made a BlogTalkRadio appearance on the show hosted by the woman that he left his wife for before leaving her to return to his wife.

Niche Movie Making: Babel is Greek to Me

Posted in Brad Pitt, Movies, Travel by totaldis on the December 14th, 2007

I just watched Babel. I didn’t enjoy it. It is not a CRAPPY movie. I think it is the best example of a movie that is trying hard to meet the specific needs of a very specific group of people. I like a lot of independent film. I like movies that challenge me. I think Babel has a pretension of being exclusive and avant-garde. I think it excluded me and I resent this. That being said, there are good performances and gripping scenes. If you are someone who subsists on a steady diet of passive entertainment, you might find it very refreshing.

Gained in Translation

Correct me if I am wrong, but bit seems like Brad Pitt’s character is speaking in perfectly discernible Italian. In the original, it was nearly impossible to figure out what he was saying.

This reminds me, I really want to rent Babel soon.

For fans of poorly spoken English, I highly recommend Riff Raff. It is spoken in English with English subtitles. I find that insulting when they do it on the news or on documentaries, but it’s ok in a movie.

Self Portrait Sunday: Boats

I had a brief conversation with a guy from Detroit who was visiting Calypso’s Cave where this pic was taken. We were speculating about who might own the super yacht. He liked to think that it might be Tiger Woods. I think most Americans richy-rich types stay in the Caribbean with their seven figure toys. To find other self portraits, go to the source at DigiCass.

U.S.A.D.D.

There is a phenomenon that some celebrities rely on and others dread. The American public has a very short attention span. I was looking at the list of celebrities that I considered worthy of their own category back when this blog was primarily celebrity news and gossip. Many of them do not enter the consciousness of a typical American on even a weekly basis anymore. I don’t watch television. Maybe those various shows that have a capital E in the title remind people.

My point is Britney Spears and lesser entities like Lindsay Lohan use public misbehavior as a device to maintain the public interest. Britney protests the attention, but I think she lives in constant fear of losing it. People like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie live their lives largely in private and are talked about less and less in the tabloids and elsewhere despite the immeasurable degree to which their relationship initially captured the public imagination

Is Jennifer Lopez a Scientologist?

Posted in Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt by totaldis on the April 18th, 2007

The front runner for the Worst Blog of All Time didn’t name names, but he may as well have. It took me the better part of a day to digest the news that Jennifer Lopez is a scientologist.

If you are unfamiliar with the cult, let me give you the basic parts that might hold the most appeal for J Lo. Celebrities are sucked up to and coddled at a special facility. The do not have the same experience that non-celebrities have with the cult at all. After handing over control of their finances, regular people get have, in the past, been asked to clean up cattle ships. Celebrities are hit up for money. Brad Pitt was courted by scientology and it’s possible that his frugalness saved him.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Buy a Super-Yacht

I live on an Island in the Mediterranean. I haven’t lived here long enough to be able to spell Mediterranean without thinking about it really hard, but I have gotten used to seeing really, really expensive boats.

The luxury yacht business is booming, supply cannot keep up with demand. The picture is just a randomly chosen big yacht. Brad and Angelina are having a 240ft one built to specs.

yacht.JPGI was snorkelling last year and I had an enjoyable chat with a couple of bikini clad french girls that had swam to the shore from one of these fancy yachts that was anchored at the mouth of the bay. I’m not sure if they were more amused about the octopi that I was reporting about or by the novelty of speaking English to a slightly bashful, middle-aged goof. Did I mention that the boat was really nice?

Anyway, the conspicuous consumption by Pitt and Jolie follows on the heels of a hasty adoption of a fourth child, one that Pitt was rumored to have had reservations about. I’m talking about the adoption, not the child, I’m sure he will accept and love the child.

The story about the yacht purchase also follows reports of Pitt saying that four kids was enough for now and that he wanted to take time to get to know thame all before they added anyone else to the family.

I don’t know these people, but I have known other people. Sometimes couples buy stuff as a way to distract themselves from relationship issues.

California Real Estate Insanity

Posted in Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Brad Pitt, Michael Jackson, Avril Lavigne by totaldis on the April 10th, 2007

I don’t follow the real estate values in California very closely. The climate is very nice there. They call it a Mediterranean climate. Since I am not a celebrity, when I decided to leave Canada for a warmer place I went to the Mediterranean. Houses are very expensive to purchase here, but they are surprisingly cheap to rent.

I find out about house prices in California when celebrities get married and when they get divorced. Avril Lavigne and her new husband are shelling out about $10 million. Jessica Simpson and Nick Lache sold their Newlyweds home to a d-list actor for something over $3 million. Tom Green has irrevocably altered his nice 7 figure bungalow by retrofitting it into a broadcast studio for his web channel. And Steve O peed on his chairs.

I can understand why busy actors and actresses might need to have a house in Southern California, it’s the singers that I don’t get. Britney Spears claims to hate the spotlight, but she continues to live in the midst of it. She owns several homes including one in Southern California. If you are a smart celebrity homes can be a great investment. Brad Pitt has a house fetish. He likes houses that can be used as projects. He has had generous block parties to appease his neighbors and make up for all the construction. He is also too busy to actually spend much time living in the houses that he acquires and works on.

ValuesInfo.com can be used to get an idea of what your own home is worth, or you can use it to get an idea what homes in other neighborhoods are worth. I actually used it last year by plugging in celebrity addresses. It was fun.

My New Habit: Correcting Wikipedia

Posted in Brad Pitt by totaldis on the March 14th, 2007

I share this computer with someone who installed a spell checking add-on. Today I corrected two spelling mistakes in the Wikipedia entry for Brad Pitt. I didn’t even think to check as to whether the facts were right. Maybe next time.

Angelina Set to Adopt Another Child

Posted in Celebrity Relationships, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt by totaldis on the March 3rd, 2007

There are reports that Angelina has begun the process of adopting a child from Vietnam.

Angelina Jolie has two adopted children and one baby that is her biological daughter with Brad Pitt. There has always been the probability of more, she has made no secret of her desires for a big family. After a certain number of children, there can be a negative public perception. I am not sure what that number is, I don’t think it is written in stone. My wife is an only child and she is looking askance at this latest news. I have three siblings and I am holding of on making any judgments about Angelina’s decision for now.

The reality is that Angelina has a lot of resources, and hopefully a lot of love to give to children and when she adopts an orphan from a developing country, that child is almost certain to have a better life that it would otherwise. Another reality is that with every additional child added to the family, the amount of one on one time that each child gets is reduced. I think there is a point where it is just wrong for her to adopt more children. Maybe five is the upper limit. Maybe four, Brad and Angelina only have a total of four hands to hold.
