Terralever is Creative Marketing

hug.JPGI have made a couple of posts where I said that I have lost interest in Facebook. I have to make a confession. I was recently pulled back in. I updated some files on one application that I had previously added and I added a new application as well. I think things had gotten out of hand for a while, but facebook application developers like Terralever are hitting their stride with inventive and entertaining stuff that you may just want to put on your Facebook.

Terralever specializes in media presentations for websites. The link in the preceding paragraph takes you to their sandbox. They are not shy about showing you the fresh but rough stuff. The company name is a nod to Archimedes boast about moving the Earth. The company does not, however, have an extremely long stick. What they do have is a broad spectrum of talent and a depth of experience.

They are fast thinking, creative and technologically savvy. They can take your company’s promotional goals and run with them. I think the ‘Give Owen Wilson a Hug’ campaign must be one of those projects that is a pro bono effort that demonstrates how well Terralever can get a million or more people to take notice and participate in something that is new. I am debating whether or not to add the application to my Facebook. Britney Spears is in more dire need of a hug… and she has boobies.

Bill Gates is Not on My Facebook

You know how Tom was everyone’s first friend on Myspace?

If Microsoft actually does buy Facebook, maybe Bill Gates should be the default first friend. I have a Facebook, I hardly ever look at it and when I do there are people from my extended family inviting me to take part in weird applications.

I also have a MySpace profile that I hardly ever look at. When it was still of some interest to me, I invited all of the various puppets to be my friends. Many of them obliged. Grover is a stuck up jerk. One of my favorite friends is Puppet Tom. He emulates the real Tom from MySpace in a humorous and edgy way.

I think Facebook may soon need a Puppet Bill Gates. I don’t have the time, or the indoor-face-colored felt needed to do this project justice, so I am putting the idea out there to see if there are any takers.

In Your Facebook!!!

It seems that one universal truth of the Facebook experience is that you come virtually face to face with the people that you knew in high school. I think at least 95% of us had a horrible time in high school and have a few nemeses from that era.

If you haven’t yet gotten yourself on Facebook, I have a modest proposal for your. Design a profile that has the most potential for upsetting those people that were mean to you in high school. I can’t say whether your best tactic is to elicit remorse or jealousy or even shock and awe. You know those awful people better than I do. For the record, I have not lied on my Facebook. I really do live somewhere cool. I really don’t leave the house to go to work every morning.

I’m Never Going Back To My Old School

Canadians are different than Americans. I was reminded of this when I decided to check out the top 100 lists on Alexa as divided by country. As of this day, the Canada list has Facebook at #4 and MySpace at #8. In America, MySpace is #3 and Facebook is #7.

I am interested in hearing from people about what they think this means. It could just be a matter of market size. I live in a tiny European country and Hi5 is #1 for some reason.

So, anyway, I was convinced to get a Facebook profile and I found out that lots of people that I grew up with back in Canada are on it. Here is the inspiration for the title. Social networking sites are a great place to go if you want to feel old. I did find a random selection of age cohorts from the place where I was born. I added 2-3 of them, people that I like and respect. To be honest though, I don’t have much in common with them. I guess people often lose touch for a reason.
