NFL Sunday Ticket on DirectTV

Posted in Football, Sports, Television by totaldis on the July 12th, 2007

The NFL Sunday Ticket on DirectTV typically offers 14 games every Sunday. I am not sure if they make a bag of pork rinds big enough to handle the whole day. You had better have an extra bag in reserve.

With a regular cable package, you are lucky to get 4 games on a Sunday. Only four games? Your wife won’t even start missing you.

Fantasy Footballers love DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket because of the Player Tracker and the Highlights-on-Demand feature.

Direct TV Deals are big and impressive and they go the whole 9 yards. You can expect saving in the neighborhood of $520 and they throw in an iPod Shuffle.

Where Indians Share Videos

I love bollywood movies…in small doses. The movie clips on Aapka are generally uploaded because a user thinks they are really good examples of what is great about Bollywood. Some of the clips are a little steamy. It is very interesting to see how sensual and intense a movie scene can be without being explicit. Hollywood could learn a thing or two from these guys.

As an outsider, I can’t get that excited about the cricket. Almost everyone in the world understands football (soccer ::roll:: ) and can get excited about a stellar play. There are some really great sports clips.

Television from other countries is always fun to check out, whether it’s Indian drama or Italian game shows, it’s just fun to sit there not quite getting it. It’s a combination of seeing how much we are all the same and how much we differ.

I also really like the Indian Videos that showcase the culture of the region. It seems like India is not a place that gets swept up by western pop culture in that same way that other parts of the World have. It’s kind of like, ‘thanks, but no thanks, we have OUR OWN culture.’

Aapka is treating its devoted users to some prizes. One iPod is given away each month to the user who has the most popular video.

Encouraging Baiting In Bloggers

Posted in Football, Politics, Personal, Books, Television, Food by totaldis on the April 30th, 2007

I don’t know about any real listing system for people in the blogosphere. I think various little cliques that have some statistical significance claim to be A-listers.

Anyway, I am going to talk mysteriously about the fact that an A-list blogger, self proclaimed or otherwise, has been called out about his link-baiting posts. The man who did the cookware color assessment suggested that a slightly more restrained and finessed use of this technique would be useful for us K-listers as well. These are posts in which a blogger makes a controversial statement with the premeditated intention of getting readers with strong views to link to the post.

I have done this myself on occasion. And I am going to do it again now. And, yes, I know you’re not supposed to let everyone know that you are link-baiting.

Edit: I had seven very controversial and inflammatory statements all typed up and ready to publish. I even did a spell check on some of the nasty words that I don’t normally use. And then I wussed out.

I would like to point out that the front runner in the BCA’s for Best Blog Of All Time is about cute animals.

Football Vs Football

This year’s SuperBowl captured an estimated 93.2 million viewers. This makes it the third most watched television program in history. The articles I read about this story do not in any way qualify their superlatives as being national figures. It kind of reminds me of how the championship for baseball pitting the National League Champions against the American League Champions is called the World Series (yes, there are two teams from Canada).

Many people in the rest of the World play a game that they like to call Football. The cumulative audience over the 25 match days of the 2002 World Cup reached a total of 28.8 billion viewers. There are Americans who feel the need to disparage what they refer to as soccer. I don’t want to pick sides, but I would love to host a heated argument in my comments section. I think it is a no brainer to say that team sports tend to draw people who like to pick a side.

Fan is Short for Fanatic

I really don’t have much to say about this video. The man supports the Razorbacks. They have the distinction of being the only team named after a type of pig. There are no shocking surprises in this video, it’s just a man showing some team spirit.

Prince to Play at Superbowl

Ok, the picture is an exaggeration. Prince is officially 5′2″ and the average NFL player is 6′1.5″. While we are being honest, THIS is what it sounds like when doves cry.
