Resemblance?

Barely contained insanity might have common effects on the facial expressions of human beings. Or maybe these two do really look a little bit alike and the commonality between these two photos is as simple as a lack of sincerity.

Michael Jackson has a birthday coming up in a few weeks. He will be 49.

I wonder what Britney Spears will look like when she is 49?

Toney Personals Galore

Posted in Books, Relationships by totaldis on the July 28th, 2007

I saw a link to the London Review of Books classifieds. Everybody seems to find these things worthy of comment.

There has been coffee table book recently produced that is dedicated to the compiling and commenting on these oddities. People obsessively read these for the personals ads, even though they aren’t looking for a partner. I suspect that many people actually write these as a creative endeavor rather than a means to an end. I decided that since I wasn’t looking at them with any purpose beyond entertainment in mind, I might as well go back in time to look at the old ones. Here is the Archive.org page for the London Review of Books classifieds. Fill your boots.

I’ll see you at the LRB singles night. I’ll be the one breathing heavily and stroking my thighs by the “art” books. Asthmatic, varicosed F (93) seeks M to 30 with enough puff in him to push me uphill to the post-office. This is not a euphemism.

I am going to put the relevant link at the very bottom of this post because some of you may give up on the Internet for good after reading about this newly unveiled piece of Japanese technology.

The gPod is a vibrator. It will translate the signal from any audio device to a phallic attachment with three motors. Potentially, you could use this in concert with a long distance phone call from a partner. Or you could have it plugged into the 1/8 inch jack on your PC while you watch videos on YouTube.

Free Online Dating From KissCafe

I think that an association between Free Online Dating and cafes is inevitable. Meeting in person for the first time requires a setting that is suitable for conversation. Cafes are synonymous with talking. A British monarch once ordered the doors of coffee houses closed because people inside them were busy talking about him.

The other choices for safe places to meet people that you have corresponded with online are restaurants (pricey), malls (lame) and bars (sordid). Actually, there is nothing wrong with meeting at a bar if that is where both people are most comfortable.

I’m writing this post kinda backwards, but really, online dating is about making physical contact with people. I think that when it’s done correctly, it cuts down on the process of making physical contact with the wrong people.

KissCafe looks like it has a lot of cool people. Some parts of the site are pretty free wheeling, check out the section with questions and answers from users. It’s called Eureka and at this moment it is pretty bawdy.

Some people on the site that stand out are New Wave Boy and Blondeambition. Actually, I Googled the phrase “we met on kisscafe” and their profiles were on the first page. They didn’t meet each other, they just have blogs on KissCafe that rank high on search engines.

I just found a riveting work of fiction on a member blog on KissCafe. I am going to wrap this post up and go back and read the thing, it’s substantial.

I think using a dating site that gives you a lot of space to express yourself has several consequences. Users can weed out the people who really can’t be bothered to express themselves properly. Users can more accurately find people with compatible sensibilities. Users can goof around ‘expressing themselves to distract themselves from the fact that nobody wants to meet them. I would say that KissCafe is a great online dating site for honest, expressive people. It’s probably useful to the other 90% of humans as well.

Don’t Forget Your Wedding Anniversary

Posted in Relationships by totaldis on the July 21st, 2007

Forgetting a wedding anniversary can have consequences for a husband. I have two strategies to offer you guys that might help you avoid this mistake.

Get married on your birthday. Nobody ever forgets their own birthday.

If you are already married, you might want to consider moving to a street that is named after the date on which you were married. This might sound a bit extreme, but if you are forgetful, the improvement in your safety and well being might make it well worth the effort. I have a street named after the 7th of June and one named after the 8th of September in my community. you might have to do an exhaustive search if your wedding date is one of the other 363 days.

Another Teenage Wasteland

I watched a sampling of the YouTube videos that were made earlier this month featuring a who’s who of popular YouTubers.

I am offended by them.

Individually, people like Dax Flame, thehill88 and Lisa Nova are tolerable. Whoever financed the project that brought a bevy of YouTube celebrities together in LA to play house in front of the cameras should be fired. The spectacle itself was loathsome and it ruins the mystique that existed around people who have generally stayed in character for their own videos.

k-i-s-s-i-n-g.JPGWhy didn’t they tie this to some cause? Why didn’t they have some premise that would allow for the suspension of disbelief?

Were these people paid to participate in this crap, or were they merely offered free travel and lodging? Google needs a new motto. How about DON’T BE LAME ?

Why is Perez Hilton in a video with these other people? He is a real person, sort of.

Missed Connections

Posted in Cool Stuff, Art, YouTube, Relationships by totaldis on the July 2nd, 2007

I have never been a part of any of the large urban communities in the USA or Canada. That is why I was unfamiliar with the concept of the Missed Connections Classifieds when Val, YouTube star of ValsArtDiary based her weekly video and featured art piece on the phenomenon. Basically missed connections involve individuals who make eye contact with a stranger in a big city and develop an obsession about the moment to the point where they need to have it put into print in hopes that the other party had embued the moment with some importance as well.

This woman is a talented artist and a brilliant self promoter. Every Sunday, she presents a new artwork by way of a personal story. She uses editing and graphic effects to bring her work to life. The featured artworks are sold on eBay and come with a DVD version of it’s story. She also has a weekly draw for another work of art. She simply throws a dart at a printout of her complete subscriber list. If you joined now, you would have a 1 in 17060 chance of winning an original work of art. The giveaway art tends to be of comparable quality to the art that is for sale, but they are usually smaller in scale and they have no big story attached to them.

I think with those lost connections articles, there is probably about a 1 in 17060 chance that a real relationship will result.
