A Lot of Explaining to do…
Two women kissing in a ballpark and being asked to stop have sparked a debate of sorts in Seattle.
The AP coverage depressed me because it contained two incidences of people giving the following reason for being against gay PDA’s…
If kids witness it, their parents will HAVE to EXPLAIN it.
Wow.
It is amazing how stupid people can be. Maybe not wanting to have to explain things to kids is genetic. I am going to explain something to those particular parents. Sixty-five percent of US children now use the Internet. Actually that is a 2003 statistic. I am lazy and grabbed the highest ranking survey. I imagine it is close to 80% by now. I have it good authority that there are women kissing and men kissing and also some other stuff on the internet. Maybe you better skip the next ballgame and talk to your kids. You have a lot of explaining to do.

96 Tears: Part 2
These crying stories are not going to be in chronological order. I am going to write them down as they come to me.
When I was 12 my aunt played host to me and my older brother in Toronto for a week or so. We did all the kid things like the zoo and the science centre. We went to a couple of ball games as well. I was pretty emotionally fragile towards the end of the week. It was my first significant trip away from home and I was a country boy I the biggest city in the country. For some reason when they played the song OK, Blue Jays during the 7th inning stretch, I cried. That is a bit funny. It’s ok for you to laugh at this. What is even funnier is that the song continued to be a trigger for years after that. I am going to try an experiment now and see if I can listen to it without a tear falling…
…I seem to be unaffected by all the half minute clips of the remix. I couldn’t find the original.
Helping With Teen Burnout
If you are a teen and you feel that you are under a lot of stress related to sports, I want to present you with a couple of options.
The first option is to quit sports. For the majority of people sports is not a sound career choice. If it not something that gives you joy, just don’t do it. You may feel pressured by coaches and parents, but they as responsible adults should want what is best for you as a person. They need to focus on the kid that is in front of them, not the imaginary sports star they see you becoming in the future.
If you really want to go for it, if nobody is going to stop you from getting there, teen sports burnout treatment might be something that will help you cope better with your life as a whole so you can continue on your path, stronger than ever. Developing stress management skills as well as mental focus can help kids play better and even enjoy sports more.
Heavyweight Roman Greenberg Prepares to Fight Damon Reed
BackgammonMasters.com, the best site for online backgammon has been backing boxer Roman Greenberg since he was a relative unknown. They couldn’t be prouder of this undefeated Russian Born Israeli has he prepares for an upcoming, high profile match.
He is getting ready to fight Damon Reed at the South Town Exhibition Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 18. You can actually see some of Damon’s earlier fights on YouTube. He is now a 35 year old veteran. His nickname is Dangerous. He has a good record, but he is not undefeated. I was looking at his schedule and as is typical, a high profile fighter doesn’t have to fight as often. He only had one fight in 2006.
Roman is a 25 year old newcomer that BackgammonMasters.com has been backing for some time. The backgammon website operators have a great deal of confidence and enthusiasm related to this young hopeful. They believe he can make it to the top of his sport. He is currently undefeated. His last fight was in Madiso Square Gardens against Mike Simms. The fight went all ten rounds and the judgement was unanimous, although the scoring was close. You can find out everything about a boxer online. I think that almost every aspect of every fight must have some money riding on it.
Gammonish is the online source for backgammon news and information. They have information related to this story and, of course, all the latest news in the world of backgammon.
Pool is Cool
I have a few vivid memories that involve pool tables. The one that I am going to relay to you now is kind of bitter sweet. When I was in college, I got up the nerve to go on stage during a brewery sponsored stand up comedy contest. This first part has very little to do with pool tables, so bear with me. Anyway, I used my guitar as a bit of a crutch, and I managed to pull of a pretty good performance. I played a sweet sounding song about Montezuma’s revenge. Actually, the song was typical of the late eighties, with soft verses and a jarringly hard chorus.
But I digress…Anyway, I one second place. The top act was two guys with guitars.
One of these guys asked me to team up with him for a serious musical performance later that year. There were technical difficulties at this second performance and we choked and left the stage. I was fairly stoic about the episode, but my partner was in a state. I played pool with him as a form of therapy. It was like the cue ball was our failed gig. I have never seen anyone turn anger into bank shots so effectively. When he was fully recovered he was very grateful to me for helping him calm down. I was a little bit bummed that he beat me so badly so many times, but hey, I may have saved a life.
Pool tables are very useful for office perks in 2.0 businesses. I have met at least one programmer who mentioned a beer fridge and a pool table as institutions in his place of work.
If you get a table for your home or office, be sure to get a good looking pool table lamp to hang above it.
They Were Talking ‘Bout Hockey
I had to move to Europe before I finally understood how Canadian the Irish Rovers really were. If you aren’t Canadian, you probably don’t know the song from which I lifted my title.
These days, will all the expansion teams that I don’t even keep track of, the sport of hockey is getting less Canadian all the time. Or is America getting MORE Canadian???
The top five picks in the nhl entry draft all went to American teams. That is no surprise. Three out of five of these guys are Canadian, but the Top two are American.
Hockeysfuture.com has complete details of the NHL Draft. I was not the hockey nut in my family. I was drafted to be the goalie when my older brother was practicing his shots every day after school. A slap shot got its name because of the way it feels went it hits you in the head. That is an understatement.
My older brother didn’t have Internet access until last year. I told him about the huge forum on HF as soon as I heard that he was online. This forum is on the list of the top 100 forums.
Bend It like Beck
Now that the Beckhams have moved to LA. This could result in some confusion because Beck (the eldest Hansen) is also a resident of that city.
I will contrast the two as a public service.
- Beckham had OCD and an OBE while Beck is just whack.
- Beck played at the music and arts festival Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee on June 17, 2006 while Beckham played with Manchester United from 1992 to 2003.
- Beckham married somebody who is Scary and had a few kids. Beck married a second generation scientologist and has two children. His wife has a personal website hosted by scientology.
- The Beckhams are going to be neighbors of the Cruise family. I don’t know where Beck lives.
Oh, the scientology thing… I am beginning to see through the seemingly innocent friendship that Tom Cruise has fostered with the super famous and widely admired sports star (Beckham). I actually suspect that Beckham may be a target of this scientology cult. He has admitted that he has a psychological disorder, scientology likes to pretend to fix these.
Here is a telling little detail about how scientology is promoted. Becks wife is a second generation scientologist just like Beck, but her ’success story’ on her scientology run web page makes it sound like she was a lost and aimless young woman who was lucky to find the cult. THEY ARE LIARS. I can say that with impunity because truth is an absolute defense.
NFL Sunday Ticket on DirectTV
The NFL Sunday Ticket on DirectTV typically offers 14 games every Sunday. I am not sure if they make a bag of pork rinds big enough to handle the whole day. You had better have an extra bag in reserve.
With a regular cable package, you are lucky to get 4 games on a Sunday. Only four games? Your wife won’t even start missing you.
Fantasy Footballers love DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket because of the Player Tracker and the Highlights-on-Demand feature.
Direct TV Deals are big and impressive and they go the whole 9 yards. You can expect saving in the neighborhood of $520 and they throw in an iPod Shuffle.
Interview With an Umpire
TD:
So, which catcher has the most alluring cologne?
Ump:
Steerike One!!!
TD:
Was I out of line? Sorry about that. Moving on…is it true that you are, in fact, BLIND? I have heard many people exclaim about your unfortunate disability. Doesn’t it make your job difficult?
Ump:
Steeeerike TWO!!!
TD:
Ok, I’ll take that as a “No I am not blind, thank you for your concern.” What about the rumor that you are so drunk that you have to lean on the catcher to maintain your balance?
Ump:
Steeeeeerike three…your out!!!
Jackie Robinson Day
I have to confess that I am not a person who follows professional sports closely. Hearing about the Dodgers all wearing number 42 in honor of the late Jackie Robinson to commemorate the 60th anniversary of his entry into major league baseball as the first ever black player affected me.
I don’t know if it by fate or by design that the first black man to be allowed/chosen to play in MLB was such a huge personality. Canadians are proud to have played host to this man as he played for one year in Triple-A for Montreal after signing with the Dodgers. You can view a CBC video about his time in Canada here.
