Catching up with my Namesake

Posted in Satire, Theatre, People by totaldis on the January 29th, 2008

I like to think that I Google my full name less frequently than a lot of people. The various little efforts to boycott Google may have skewed the statistics to the point that I am above the median level of self absorption. Anyway, I was very surprised to find out that Martin Higgins was doing something very subversive and somewhat entertaining. He has apparently been infiltrating Fat Acceptance groups and directing them to protest against Anti-Gym a company that uses advertising that is designed to offend fat people. The catch is that he is working for Anti-Gym.

This kind of guerrilla marketing is an invention born of necessity to some degree because the face of Anti-Gym, Michael Karolchyk, is finding that many media outlets are responding to public outrage by pulling his commercials. It’s interesting to note that with the guerrilla marketing, the same media companies that shy away from selling him advertising space will probably give him free publicity by covering the protests. Michael Karolchyk regularly comes out of his gym and addresses the protesters using a bull horn.

Here is a short and very bizarre video, I think the older guy is Martin Higgins…

Britney Spears Should Go To Canada

Posted in Britney Spears, Television, Travel, Theatre by totaldis on the October 10th, 2007

Britney Spears made the following quote back when she was more functional:

“I get to go to lots of overseas places, like Canada.”

The reason that this statement is easy to find on the internet is because it points out her lack of geographical knowledge. Canada is not ‘overseas’ from the United States. If you were in Detroit or Buffalo, you could take a day trip or a weekend getaway to Toronto. I think Britney could try to wean herself off of the media attention that she loves and hates so much if she were to spend some time in Toronto. Kevin Federline was in Toronto when he got the famous breakup text message. The same music station that spent the day with him and then exploited the footage for months afterwards would probably be interested in massaging Britney’s ego for a few days. American movie stars generally love Toronto because they don’t get mobbed by paparazzi like they do in LA.

There is a nice summary of what is great about a stay in Toronto at ‘Bed and breakfast toronto

I stayed in a short let apartment with a kitchen when I took the family to Toronto for a week. I think a B&B would be a great idea if you were visiting as a couple or by yourself.

Movie Theatre Seating at Home

Posted in Cool Stuff, Movies, Television, Theatre by totaldis on the August 11th, 2007

I think that having this Berkline home theater seating in my home would inspire me to make video blogs of me being a movie critic. I think the premise would involve me making scathing reviews of movies that I have never actually viewed. I can get all the relevant facts from IMDb, and I already know that if it is mainstream it sucks and if it independent and quirky it deserves my undying praise.

I might have a hard time getting the kids to move off of the home theater seating that can be purchased from BostonTables.com. They look very comfortable. These are modular, which means you can custom order the straight or curved units to precisely fit the home theater that you have, or the one that you are planning.

Broadway Theatre Tickets

Posted in Travel, Theatre by totaldis on the July 9th, 2007

Catching a show is one of the most popular activities for visitors to cities like New York and Las Vegas. Getting tickets for the popular shows that coincide with your visit can be next to impossible unless you avail yourselves of a service like www.SoldOutBroadwayTickets.com.

They can arrange for FedEx deliveries of tickets to popular Broadway Musicals. These days you can get Legally Blonde Tickets legally. Laws related to ticket resales have changed in a number of places this year. I think it would be really cool to see a musical. The last theater I partook was some Shakespeare in the Park. There were mosquitoes. As far as I know, there are no mosquitoes on Broadway. I can’t vouch for Off Broadway.

SoldOutBroadwayTickets.com is a member of the National Association of Ticket Brokers. They provide Will Call service for New York shows.
