Total Dismay

Puck Man

Posted in Personal, Video Games by totaldis on the January 3rd, 2008

Today is the 25th anniversary of the first time that I played a game of Pac-Man.*

Did you know that it is called Puck Man in many markets, but they changed the name as it was being introduced to the US market. They were afraid that vandals would change the P to an F. There used to be a restaurant called Mother Tucker’s in Halifax and it had absolutely no street level signage.

There is an actual 1980’s arcade version of Pac-Man on eBay with a bid of $487. I can provide you with a flash version for free :)

I just invented the Pac-Man MMORPG :)

Isn’t it awesome?

Easter Eggs in ManHunt2

Posted in Conspiracy, Video Games by totaldis on the December 26th, 2007

Did you know that much of the work involved in creating ManHunt2, the first mainstream gay video game, was carried out in Vienna?

The Rockstar Vienna studio was closed down and its employees did not get mentioned in the credits for this popular games. There is a rumor that the Vienna dudes put some unauthorized Easter Eggs in the game. I don’t want to spoil the surprise for any of you avid gamers, but I am going to embed a few videos that will clue you in on what passes for creativity in Vienna.

Once you find the Easter Eggs on the game, you will have the added functionality of hugging and Vienna Sausage eating.

No Honour Among Thieves

Grand Theft Auto has been marketed as GTA in recent years to obscure the fact that it is a game that teaches children to be effective felons.

I just heard about a website that is marketing cheats for the latest installment of this game. That’s just wrong. I have been blogging intermittently about how happy I am that Manhunt 2 is bringing gaming out of the virtual closet and celebrating gay culture in a fabulous way. I certainly hope that people won’t start marketing cheats for Manhunt 2.

Video Game Rivalries

Posted in 50 Cent, Kanye West, Video Games by totaldis on the December 15th, 2007

Remember to ridiculous faux standoff between 50 Cent and Kanye West at some awards show?

If you had any interest in it at all, you know that there was this thing where Fiddy said that he would retire if his album didn’t outsell Kanye’s. Fiddy lost.

50 Cent may think he is uncontested by other big name rappers in the realm of video games. He is blissfully unaware that the hugely popular online Furry game called Furcadia is controlled by none other that Kanye West. This completely unaltered screenshot proves it.
